Dock Bay Walk

There is a lovely walk that you can do all the way to Dock Bay.

Description

This is part of the Kepler Track (a Great Walk). For information about all sections of the track, see Kepler Track description.

From the Kepler Track carpark, the Kepler Track follows the lake shore through mountain and red beech forest, with kamahi and some scattered rimu and miro and yellow-flowering kowhai.

After passing an attractive grove of hard tree ferns and crown ferns, Dock Bay appears. Dock Bay is suitable for swimming and has toilet facilities.

Continue across the Coal Creek Bridge and follow the lake shore to Brod Bay, which is a delightful place to swim. Brod Bay has a toilet and campsite area.

Brod Bay is a great place for overnight camping if you want a mini-adventure with the children.

Getting there

This track begins from the Kepler Track carpark, which is at the southern end of Lake Te Anau, about 5 km (6 minutes drive) from Te Anau.

To get there by vehicle or bicycle from the DOC Visitor Centre on Lakefront Drive, follow the Manapouri - Te Anau Highway for about 2 km, turn right onto Golf Course Road for another 1.8 km and the carpark is signposted on the right.
